Like any eye procedure, keratopigmentation carries risks, including light sensitivity, inflammation, infection and changes in vision. Long-term evidence for purely cosmetic use is limited. A physician can decline to perform the procedure for safety reasons.
Is it permanent?
It is intended to be permanent. In some cases pigment can fade and may be touched up. Removal may not be possible or complete, and a physician will discuss this with you before you decide.
Is it safe?
Like any eye procedure it carries risks, including light sensitivity, inflammation, infection and changes in vision. Published evidence is encouraging but long-term data is limited. Eligibility screening, a trained surgeon and follow-up are there to reduce risk, not to remove it.
Who is not suitable?
People under 18, anyone with an active eye infection or inflammation, and people with some existing eye conditions. Many other situations need a physician’s review. A physician always decides.
How long does it take?
About 40 minutes for both eyes, in one session.
What does it cost?
In Paris and Geneva the price is USD 12,000 including the hotel and the airport pick-up and drop-off, or USD 10,000 without the hotel and the airport pick-up and drop-off. It includes two scheduled follow-ups in the 12 months after the procedure and, only if required, touch-ups. Airfare is not included. In the USA and India the price is USD 12,000 for the procedure; hotel and transfers are not included. A USD 300 consultation comes first and is credited in full against your final payment.
Can I finance it?
Financing varies by country and by where you have the procedure, and some lenders only fund the procedure at clinics enrolled with them. See Payment options below, and ask us before you apply.

You can express a preference. The final shade depends on your natural iris and a physician’s assessment, and the images on this site are illustrations generated with AI.

Colored contacts are the reversible, lower-risk way to try a new color. Keratopigmentation is for people who want a lasting, natural look and accept the risks of a surgical procedure. Here is how the options compare.
